Plastaloy is the standard for reel drum and winder drum applications, providing long-term durability, grooving / drilling capabilities and a uniformly built paper roll.
Reel Spools
A reel spool, on which the paper web is wound to build a reel on the winder, requires a relatively hard cover (2 to 19 P&J) that resists wear and bounce. The cover provides a smoother and more stable wind and positive sheet pick-up.
Rubber or polyurethane reel spool covers provide excellent vibration dampening properties, a high coefficient of friction and good cut resistance to reduce noise and provide a tight wrap of paper on the spool quickly in order to minimize waste.
Reel / Winder Drum
Winder drums pull the paper from the unwind through the slitters and build finished paper rolls of proper size to be sent to the converters.
Winder and reel drums are covered with grooved and/or drilled highly abrasion resistant rubber covers with a high coefficient of friction that will reduce sheet slippage and provide a cushioned surface to maintain a consistent wrap tension and minimize finished roll variation.
