High-Performance Corona Treater Roll Cover

Developed by Xerium’s Stowe Woodward global research and product engineering team, Aurora technology is specially engineered for the most demanding corona treater roll positions in the flexible packaging industry: 

  • Ideal for treaters operating at the highest dyne levels

Superior Dielectric Strength - Since Dielectric strength determines the maximum strength of an electric field a cover can handle without breaking down, this is a  critical factor in preventing premature roll cover damage. New Aurora technology increases dielectric strength by up to 60% over the current conventional cover technology.

Superior Thermal Conductivity - Thermal conductivity determines how fast a cover can dissipate heat. Higher thermal conductivity helps to stabilize temperature profiles. New Aurora technology improves thermal conductivity by 140%.

Superior Volume Resistivity - Volume resistivity is the resistance of a cover to pass an electrical current. High resistivity is required to prevent an electric arc from discharging.  Aurora roll covers provide superior volume resistivity to ensure a steady corona discharge.

To maintain even wiping pressure over a long cycle life, the cover must exhibit excellent wearability. It must also resist moisture migration in the wet environment.

MDO

The Machine Direction Drive roll is the mating roll to the high speed film stretching and orienting roll.

The high-performance cover in this position exhibits excellent wear resistance and retains its hardness and other physical properties in the presence of heat.

Pull Roll maintains equal tension Pull Roll

The pull roll maintains an equal tension across the film surface prior to entrance into the treater section.

In this position it is critical that the roll cover maintains the optimal coefficient of friction for superior grip. The ideal cover also exhibits high wearability and resists changes in hardness and other physical properties due to heat and age.

Flame Treater Nip

The backing roll to the treater roll ensures consistent film positioning and prevents inclusion of air at the treatment section.

The ideal backing roll cover retains its contour and hardness under challenging conditions. Superior release properties are also required.

Corona Treater

The backing roll to the corona treater helps position the film in the correct position for treatment.

The cover material must be homogeneous throughout the thickness of the cover without voids or occlusions and must be highly resistant to electrostatic discharge.

Seasoning

The seasoning roll maintains equal tension across the film surface upon exit from the treater section.

The roll must retain its contour and resist cover hardening which reduces the coefficient of friction thus impacting performance.

Winder Drum

The purpose of this roll is to maintain an equal tension across the film surface during film winding.

The roll must retain its contour and resist cover hardening. Cover hardening reduces the coefficient of friction thus impacting performance. This position also requires a high degree of vibration dampening to ensure even film winding.

Slitter Layon

The slitter layon roll maintains an equalized tension across the film surface during film winding.

For optimal performance, the roll must retain its contour and cover hardness. Roll cover hardening reduces the coefficient of friction thus impacting performance. This position also requires a high degree of vibration dampening to ensure even film winding.

Winder Contact

The winder contact roll maintains an equal pressure across the film surface during film winding.

This position requires a high degree of vibration dampening to ensure even film winding. The cover must also retain its contour and cover hardness to maintain its optimal coefficient of friction.

Coater

The BOPP coater roll is used to apply silicone emulsion or other thin films to plastic sheet.

This roll requires excellent wet-out of emulsion solution on the roll surface with a high degree of resistance to chemical penetration.
